Exercise and Nutrition for Maximum TRT Benefits

Learn the best strength training, cardio, recovery, and nutrition tips to maximize your testosterone replacement therapy results.

Exercise further amplifies the muscle-building and fat-burning effects of testosterone therapy.

By working out during TRT, you can expect:

  • Increased muscle mass and strength
  • Improved body composition with less fat
  • Better cardiovascular endurance
  • Enhanced bone strength
  • Improved mood and reduced stress
  • Boosted libido and sexual performance

Strength Training

To fully leverage the muscle-building power of TRT, focus on lifting weights and strength training 4-5 days per week. Compound exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, and rows are ideal for stimulating muscle protein synthesis. You should lift challenging weights in the 6-12 rep range for maximum hypertrophy.

Cardio Exercises

Don’t neglect cardio exercise like running, cycling, swimming, and HIIT workouts 2-3 days a week. This will rev up fat burning, improve heart health, and enhance endurance.

  • Get enough calories – Make sure you are consuming enough calories daily to support muscle growth. Use a TDEE calculator to find your maintenance level and increase caloric intake by 300-500 calories per day.
  • Prioritize protein – Eat 0.5-1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. Get high-quality protein from sources like lean meats, eggs, dairy, protein powders, beans and nuts.
  • Moderate carbs – Stick to complex carbs that provide sustained energy like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and legumes. Limit added sugars and refined carbs.
  • Healthy fats – Incorporate omega-3 rich fats from fatty fish, olive oil, avocados, nuts and seeds. Avoid trans fats.
  • Stay hydrated – Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Proper hydration supports muscle building and recovery.
  • Time nutrients – Take advantage of nutrient timing by consuming protein and carbs pre/post workout to promote muscle protein synthesis and replenish glycogen stores.
